Nidd Valley Saw Mill

Back

March 2024

  • This was my trip to the abandoned Nidd Valley Saw Mill on the side of the River Nidd, close to Dacre Banks.

I'm not aware as to when the site was opened, but the one figure I could find was about 1920. The site buildings were expanded at some point and the area was abandoned in 2017, with the company being dissolved in November 2021.

The area was in an interesting state, with building damage present in areas and a number of random items and tools scattered about. The buildings themselves were in okay shape, apart from one end of the main stone building, which had a roof collapse at some point, leading to a notable dent. It was sort of in between looking like it had been abandoned for years, and like the workers had only just left, leaving behind everything where it last was placed.
